2012 Smasne Cellars Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon
Upland Vineyard- Snipes Mountain
Smasne Cellars' Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon stems from a friendship between winemaker Robert O. Smasne and viticulturist Todd Newhouse of Upland Vineyards and the passion they share for the Yakima Valley. All great wines start in the vineyard, and Todd's nurturing efforts have created the opportunity to showcase this specific block, vineyard and appellation in fulfilling Robert's quest to produce an Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon of quality and depth from the Yakima Valley.
The wine itself is reminiscent of Cabernet Sauvignons from a time before winemakers thought it was magical to hang grapes until they were raisins. It is concentrated, bold, chewy and expressive of its origin, yet not overblown. Ripe fruit flavors, violets and earthy undertones lead the way to rich spices, balance and a pop of fresh, caramelized oak that lingers to a rich and lengthy finish.
